Some fonts are so overused that they should be put into a time-capsule and locked away for a hundred years or so. To prove my point, let's play 'Font Bingo'. Print this page, and when you spot the font loose in the real world you can fill in the right-hand column. It shouldn't take you very long to fill up the sheet.

Not exactly exciting, is it? Nothing wrong with the font in itself, but it's used so much in office documentation that it doesn't stand out at all for signage.  
     
Oh, where to start, quite possibly the most hated font in the design community, so I'm just going to point you here.  
     
Overused 'future' looking font.

Used by just about every courier company or where something has to be 'fast'  
     
Basically, the same reasons as 'Arial'. OK for documents, not so good for signage
